About Us

Community Action Wisconsin

Community Action Wisconsin is a non-partisan effort fighting to make healthcare affordable and accessible for working families in La Crosse and Eau Claire. While Rep. Derrick Van Orden and Rep. Tom Tiffany voted to gut Medicaid and let ACA subsidies expire, we're building local solutions that put people first.

We organize communities to develop Local Healthcare Action Plans — a citizen-driven accountability tool that uses local policymaking to respond to federal failures on healthcare access and affordability.

  • More than 300,000 Wisconsinites risk seeing health insurance premiums double or triple in 2026 now that Congress let enhanced ACA subsidies expire.   • 54,000 Wisconsinites are losing Medicaid after Reps. Van Orden and Tiffany both voted for the cuts — Van Orden despite personally promising constituents he wouldn't. Their votes helped deliver over $1 trillion in tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthiest Americans and their donors, paid for by gutting the healthcare coverage working families depend on.
